(Previous Drawing: bysthedragon.deviantart.com/ar…)
I'm not completley scrapping the other fantasy races I drew previously, some of them might still appear in this story or in another story but I was inspired off of the Legend of Zelda and how it's races like the Deku, Gorons, and Zora are completley unique to the series. This is my series so I decided to populate it with creatures of my own design with the exception of the Dragons because nobody can reinvent the Dragon, they are already perfect to me!
In fantasy stories there are typically five main races that inhabit the world (Not including the "Evil" Races which are a shadow to the five main races), but because seven is a reoccurring number of significance in my story, I decided to design seven my main races:
  • The High Race: In most stories the High Race (or High Men) are the High Elves or Gods. They represent the ideal of what men want to be: Immortal, Powerful, Wise, etc...
  • The Mundane Race: In most stories the Mundane Race are Humans. They are smart but not the smartest, strong but not the strongest, they have the ability to use magic but no affinity for it, they have plenty of bitches and bastards among them but not necessarily always chaotic evil, they live longer than mayflies but shorter than Elves.
  • The Stout Race: In most stories the Stout are Dwarves or Giants. They are usually associated with hard physical work and masculinity.
  • The Fairy Race: In most stories the Fairy Race are Wood Elves, Angels, or Fairies. If not the High Race then the Fairy race are the most magical race and often depicted as so removed from the other races' mortal needs as to border on the alien or out of touch. Typically the Fairy doesn't get along with Stout, and is correspondingly more "feminine" to counter the "masculine" Stouts, and are more ascetic or emotionally restrained to counter the gruff passion of the Stouts.
  • The Crafty Race: In most stories the Crafty Race are Gnomes at best and Goblins at worst. Small, numerous and often smart and cunning, otherwise they wouldn't still be around. These buggers are usually the most technically inclined group, and rely on the ability to build and invent bigger and better weapons than the other races.
  • The Warrior Race: In most stories the Warrior race or the Savage race tend to be Orcs, Ogres, or Barbarians. To them War is not just conflict, it is their way of life and they actively seek out battle and bloodshed because their culture teaches them that doing so is the greatest source of personal pride and glory. This proud warrior race will often be based on one of several real world cultures who are perceived to have acted this way, such as the SamuraiSpartansVikings, and Mongols.

The Dragons, known formally as the Tarakona are among the most powerful and majestic of all races, often considered by many races to be synonymous with the concept power itself. According to ancient legends, the Tarakona were blessed by the divine spirit of the moon with the power to bend the elemental forces of nature to their will. Each Tarakona is born with 1 of 16 different elements dependent on the lunar phase in which they are born under which will also dictate many of their visible traits such as coloration rather than being solely dependent on traits of their parents though that also plays a role, for instance if both parents have feathery wings then regardless of element the child should still have feathery wings. Along with being extremely powerful, they are also physically imposing giant winged apex predators with tough scales that act as a natural body armor that are resistant to most attacks from standard metal weaponry. Unlike most of the other races, Tarakona are quadrupeds, which makes them appear more animalistic than other races but have intelligence comparable to that of a Uraean and only grows wiser over time due to their extensive life-span.

Tarakona can hear and communicate in lower pitches than Uraeans are able to understand so it makes trans-species communication a bit of a challenge especially for older/larger dragons who may be mistaken for growling, but this makes sense in their evolution. Long before radiating into many variations of different elements Dragons built their homes in the mountains and probably used these low pitches to send messages to each other over long distances, and used their wings like satalite dishes to pick up on these messages. It’s theorized that before their wings were used for flight the originally developed solely for communication, and over time they figured out how to use them for more efficient travel so those with larger wings and were better at gliding went on to produce healthier offspring who were better hunters and eventually created the modern Dragon. It’s also theorized by the residual fangs on most dragons that at some point they all had venom and may have been able to spit poison like a cobra which then advanced into various elemental breath powers.

Today the Tarakona live in strict isolation from all other races of the world and focus on caring about only their own people over all else. Should another race try to enter their territory all they would be greeted by, would be a quick death without even seeing their attacker. The Takakona will not negotiate or show mercy to intruders to keep their land safe from all outside threats, however it was not always this way, a long time ago the Tarakona were once revered and often even worshiped by many races as the great caretakers of the world who stood for the preservation and protection of all races, cultures, and protecting the beauty of the natural world. They were knights and negotiators who came to the aid of conflict, but eventually after ages of war went nowhere to favor peace, the Tarakona grew impatient with the other races, and believed that they could no longer trust them not to destroy each other, so the Tarakona took action quickly and laid down the new rules; Everyone must cooperates with them or any resistance will be faced the wrath of the Dragon Army, hundreds of thousands of Tarakona, each one trained to use their powers to kill entire armies if necessary for the sake of maintaining peace and dominance. For some time they kept all of the other races in check, no one race would have power over the others except for the Tarakona who had supreme authority over all because the other races were now too afraid of the consequences of resistance.
To many of the smaller and weaker races, the Tarakona were celebrated and worshiped as noble and loving guardians, mothers and fathers of the land, for without their intervention they would have been easily destroyed in the wars and conflicts of the other much larger and more powerful races, but generally the richer and stronger races hated them and saw them as terrible power driven tyrants. Despite the lack of war and death many races wanted freedom from the Tarakona’s rule, while other more savage races simply longed for the thrill of war and bloodshed. Despite the general fear of eradication, disobedience sparked rebellion against the Tarakona, and all that they had tried to prevent and protect fell apart in front of them. The Tarakona had the upper hand in the beginning of the war but it only helped the rebellion prove their point about the Tarakona and gather more followers. The Tarakona realized that they were now causing the very thing they tried to stop and decided that they had enough fighting and would not be persecuted for their generosity. They left the land and told the other races that they could destroy themselves if they please, but they would take no part in it. Since the end of the war, the Tarakona have remained fiercely isolated in their territory beyond the mountains in the Southwest and great tundra in the Northeast. The Kingdom of the South, known to the Tarakona themselves as Pa-Hinga-Kore, is ruled by one Rex, while in the North there are many separate Tarakona Tribes with their own individual chieftains. Dragon symbolism is still used by races outside of the Tarakona themselves as a mark of absolute power and proficiency. If someone is given the title “Dragon” then they have reached a level of skill at which point they are considered indomitable unless by another dragon.
  • Light Dragon: Because Light Dragons can actively manipulate the wavelengths of light at will, they can casually change the color of light reflected off of their scales, making it difficult to identify their natural color or identify a Light Dragon against another variant. To identify a Light Dragon look at their wings, they have a unique style of wing that resembles a solar sails allowing them to fly on waves of light, they start off slowly but gradually gain speed over time, making them the fastest Dragons over long distances.
  • Crystal Dragon: Crystal Dragons tend to have the coloration and ornaments that resemble a precious gemstone or minneral dependent on the elements of their parents. If both parents are any variation of Crystal Dragons then the child will be born a Diamond Crystal Dragon. Other elements yield a variation of other gemstones: Light yields quarts, fire yields rubies, lightning yields topaz, psionic yields opals, earth yields jades…etc, and different combinations of elements create unique variation of gemstones.
  • Fire Dragon: Fire Dragons most commonly come in a variety of warm colors; Red, Orange, Yellow, Magenta, Maroon, Pink, and sometimes Black. They tend to be adorned with ornamental crests, frills, horn, and spikes that resemble flames and they are able to endure intense heat better than most other variety of dragon, some say that magma doesn’t phase them and they can swim through it like water but that has not been confirmed on recorded.
  • Thunder Dragon: Thunder dragons tend to come in colors seen in electricity such as Yellow, White, Cyan, Blue, and Purple, and are adorned with jagged edged spikes, horns, frills and crests that loosely resemble bolts of lightning. Similar to Sharks, Thunder dragons have the ability to see electrical activity, even the electrochemical reactions that occur inside the brains of animals, they can tell where you are even if you are behind a wall.
  • Psionic Dragon: Psionic Dragon are not distinguishable by physical features like their scale color, that is purely genetic based on the color and elements of their parents. They are often adorned with a small jewel or horn between their eyes that channels the power of their Third Eye Chakra point, and they often like to passively have objects levitating around them.
  • Fear Dragon: Fear Dragons have been dubbed the nickname “Blood Dragons” because the most recognizable trait of a fear dragon are their glowing blood red markings, other than that it’s often difficult to tell exactly what color they are, they are always passively giving off an aura of fear that at the very least can make others feel uncomfortable or wary around them. When used actively, Fear dragons can appear to resemble the viewer’s worst fear, and overwhelm their target with the stimuli of fear until they pass out or die.
  • Earth Dragon: Earth Dragons tend to come in the colors, Green, Yellow, Orange, Brown, White, Black, and Grey, or the have the specific coloration and ornaments that resemble specific distinguishable rocks dependent on the elements of their parents, so a fire dragon would yield an Earth Dragon resemblant to an Ignis rock like granite or basalt, or a water dragon would yield an Earth Dragon resemblant to sedimentary rocks like Limestone or Sandstone. Because they are generally heavier built, less aerodynamic, and often have smaller wings, many Earth Dragons are incapable of Flight, but can endure more than most other Dragons.
  • Metal Dragon: Metal Dragons elusively come in metallic colors and tend to resemble a specific metal such as Gold, Silver, Copper, Iron, Mercury, etc…as well as adopting certain properties as the metal that they resemble. If two different Metal dragons mate and their child is also born a metal dragon then they will resemble an alloy metal of their parents.
  • Shadow Dragon: Shadow dragons come in dark and dull colors such as Black, Navy Blue, Dark Green, Dark Brown, and Grey to naturally blend into the shadows. They prefer the shade and actively try to avoid direct sunlight not because it hurts them like a vampire but their eyes are adapted to being able to see clearly in the pitch-black, too much light makes them go blind.
  • Phantom Dragon: Phantom dragons tend to have scales that are slightly transparent, and can actively change between their physical form and phantom form that allows them to phase through solid matter, and possess in animate objects. Their wings often either have a short webbing between the fingers or no membrane at all but they like to obscure their wings in a shroud of spectral clouds, and with their Phantom powers they can fly with ease.
  • Water Dragon: Water Dragons come in a variation of colors including Blue, Aqua, Torquoise, Teal, Cyan, Purple and Green or could resemble the coloration and ornaments of certain species of fish, amphibians, or aquatic birds. Water often vary depending on what kind of body of water they are best suited for such as the Lakes, Swamps, Streams, Ponds, Rivers, Coasts, Shallows, and even Deep Sea depths.
  • Ice Dragon: Ice Dragons come in a variety of cool colors such as White, Blue, Cyan, Aqua, Purple, Mint Green, Teal, and Light Pink. They are adorned with hexagonal patterns, ornaments that resemble Snow flakes or icicles, and tend to have antler like horns and long shaggy fur for colder climates, They withstand the cold decisively better than other dragons who alternatively tend to prefer warm climates.
  • Sound Dragon: Sound Dragons are more distinguished by their pattern than their color, they are marked with stripes along their body that resemble a sound wave and distinguishes each sound dragon’s own unique sound. Sound Dragons also have very large wings for picking up on the faintest noise or sounds over long distances. Sound Dragons are often the fastest fliers over short distances being able to break the sound barrier but have to land shortly after to recuperate.
  • Poison Dragon: Poison Dragons are very often adorned with bright beautiful colors like Lime Green, Bright Yellow, Cyan, Bright Blue, Violet, Magenta, that warn would be attackers that these Dragons are very Poisonous and deadly, the often have longer fangs and ornaments resemblant to other poisonous animals like snakes or scorpions.
  • Air Dragon: Air Dragons tend to come it light ethereal colors, primarily White, Light Grey, Green, Turquoise, Yellow, Azure, or pale Purple, and are adorned with long flowing fur, and feathery wings. Air Dragons are able to achieve higher altitudes than most other dragons and are able to conserve energy by gliding on their own wind currents so they can stay in the air for longer periods of time and travel great distances.
  • Wood Dragon: Wood Dragons tend to come in natural colors that blend in with plant life, primarily Green and Brown with accents of colors that may resemble fruit, flowers, leaves in the autumn, and other unique floral colorations and they are adorned with ornaments that resemble bark, leaves, roots, and vines, and there horns tend to resemble branches or needles.
